Every chapter began with a name on a truck.

The Origin

Digby R. Kerr was named for his uncle, Digby Robert. After years working in air freight for BOAC (the airline that later became part of British Airways), his uncle returned to Britain and built Digby Freight Services from the ground up. Its orange-and-white trucks became a familiar sight around Borehamwood.

To four-year-old Digby, the company meant something simpler: time with his uncle. He remembers riding along on deliveries and, on Fridays, being allowed to hand the drivers their pay packets. The letters DFS stood for Dependable, Friendly, Service, a name he would return to decades later.

One of his clearest childhood memories is a delivery to Heathrow, moving instruments connected to Rod Stewart. His uncle lifted him up to meet Stewart, who rubbed the four-year-old's head and called him “Little Digby.” Decades later, at a Rod Stewart residency in Vegas, Digby found himself a seat away from the stage, and couldn't help but wonder if Stewart would remember.

The Executive

What began as rides in his uncle's trucks became a career spanning the transportation industry: LTL, truckload, air freight, brokerage, sales and global logistics, including senior roles connected with FedEx, UPS, CEVA and XPO.

The symmetry is striking. Digby Freight Services was operating by about 1969. Federal Express began operations in 1973. Years later, the boy who grew up around his uncle's freight operation would work for FedEx himself, and go on to build transportation businesses of his own: more than 33 years in the industry, an MBA from The Wharton School, and leadership roles across nearly every mode of freight.

The Entrepreneur

When Digby created DFS Consulting and Logistics, the word consulting mattered. He didn't want to be one more transportation provider competing for shipments. He wanted to advise customers on strategy, using decades of operating and sales experience to solve the larger business problem. That thinking evolved into Logistics Consulting^TM.

The same pattern repeated with Sales Growth Marketing^TM and Horizons Growth^TM, businesses built from problems Digby had personally lived through, not theorized about. Experience a problem firsthand, understand the system behind it, then build something more useful from what was learned.

The Author & Publisher

Becoming an author required more than writing. Digby had to learn the machinery behind publishing: how a manuscript becomes a finished title, how distribution works, how a book reaches readers beyond one market.

“I didn't create a publishing company because I knew publishing. I created one because I had to learn publishing.” That learning became DKNY Publishing^TM, built to help other aspiring authors take an idea or manuscript and turn it into a professionally published work. Today Digby's own body of work has grown to 13 books distributed across global platforms.

The Educator

Digby began teaching English through an online platform that paid very little. The financial reward was small. The personal reward was enormous. Students arrived from China, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Colombia, Turkey, India and elsewhere, then the questions changed. They wanted idioms, corporate jargon, the language of international meetings.

Professionals from organizations including Goldman Sachs, KPMG and Google wanted stronger vocabulary and greater confidence. “I didn't set out to build a university. I set out to give back everything the world gave me.” That idea became Kerr University^TM, practical, one-on-one education shaped around the person, not a generic curriculum.

The Mentor

As Kerr University^TM expanded, some relationships went well beyond language or business mechanics. Students brought career decisions, entrepreneurial uncertainty and the ordinary complexities of life into their sessions. Some built three-hour weekly rhythms: one hour for English, one for entrepreneurship, one simply to think out loud.

“A mentor is not someone who tells you what to do. A mentor brings the perspective of having been there before, listens, challenges assumptions and acts as a sounding board. Mentor and mentee create the path together.” That collaborative problem solving is the thread connecting every business Digby has built.

The Creator

The last several years brought another period of intense learning, moving far beyond using AI to polish an email, into video creation, website development, application building, coding and full business workflows.

As before, learning became teaching. AI courses joined the Kerr University^TM ecosystem, designed for people who want to understand how the technology can expand what they're capable of doing. The technology changed. The pattern didn't: learn it, live it, build it, share it.

Today

Author, entrepreneur, educator, mentor, logistics strategist and lifelong learner, still building, still writing the next chapter. Six ventures, thirteen books, students and clients across more than a dozen countries, and a story that started on the hood of an orange truck in Borehamwood.
